What is Long Slow Distance Cardio

Q: Hello, On one of your posts on one of the forums you refer to an LSD CV workout. I was unable to find it on your site. Can you please elaborate on this? Thanks in advance?

A: LSD CV refers to Long Slow Distance Cardiovascular workout. As the name would suggest it is used frequently by aerobic athletes like swimmers or rowers where they exercise at a low heart rate usually 60-70% of their maximum for an extended period of time usually 60-120 minutes in duration. It is a very effective way to increase your aerobic capacity although it can prove quite tedious and also unnecessary for the average gym enthusiast. Unless you are involved in aerobic competition or are very serious about weight loss then I would suggest that aerobic activity should be no longer than 30-40minutes in duration and performed 2-3 times per week. This level of activity would be more than sufficient to achieve a high level of fitness without investing to much time or energy into achieving it.
